BookWise’s Chief Operating Officer Andy Compas recommended two books at the June 2007 BookWise AIM training. The first was Get in the Game: 8 Elements of Perseverance That Make the Difference by Cal Ripkin, Jr. It wasn’t a surprise that Andy would pick this book as he is a triathlon athlete.
While I haven’t yet had a chance yet to read his book I did enjoy the author interview posted for all BookWise associates this month. Some of the things that Cal Ripkin talked about were the following:
Find Something You Love and Go For It - Finding something you love keeps you coming back to the ball park. It keeps you in the
game. Even when the going is tough or you start out the season with a 0-21 record.
Find Your Passion and Help Your Children Find Theirs
“If you end up in that place, you belong.” - “if you make the team, remember you belong there. Don’t second guess yourself.”
“Develop win-win partnerships.”
“Trust can be a big advantage.”
“Learn from your competition.” But don’t be afraid to give information away.” He said, “If you give info you get info back. Be
willing to share information. Be forthcoming. No one owns an idea. We can benefit from each other.”
“Be willing to share information.” “Be forthcoming. No one owns an idea. We can benefit from each other.”
“When you decide to do things – do it right.”
“Achieve Balance – you don’t live two separate lives.”
“Show up and put an emphasis on the quality of the work you do each and every day.”
“Tough times make you a better person.”
After listing to Andy’s glowing review and hearing the BookWise interview I believe I am going to purchase the book and read it for myself. You can read a review of the book here:
