Tips For WiseMoms ~ Keeping Kids Busy While You Work-at-Home

What is it about kids and their sixth sense? The second I am teaching on a webinar or tele-conference, or as soon as I have a potential prospect on the phone they can sense it. They can be a block away and immediately sense that mom is really busy and want my undivided attention. It’s been particularly bad around our house lately.

Last night I was on a BookWise conference call when the kids rushed into the room fighting. The youngest sat here on the chair next to me crying for several minutes. It can be so frustrating!

We’ve had the usual talks with the kids. We’ve emphasized how important it is for them to not interrupt us when we are on the phone, but still my two youngest do it.

So I’ve decided to get more proactive. Especially for Monday nights. Monday nights are the night that I conduct team training classes, and have conference call after conference call. Here’s my plan:

Monday Night Madness: Create a box with various activities that they can do. Because of the age difference in my girls (age 6 and age 11) I would probably have to create two boxes. I thought I would keep in there activities they could only do when I am my Monday Night conference calls. Vineyard Designs calls something like this a a treasure box.Kristie T’s included a link to great activities for littler ones over at her blog. I thought I would throw in a surprise activity every now and then. The trick would be to come up with activities that they could always do on their own.

Movie Monday’s: Rent a movie, pop some popcorn, get them in the Pajama’s and let them sit back and enjoy the movie.

I’d love to hear any ideas you have so leave your comment please. I’ll try some of them out and let you know how they work.
