2008 Book List - Title Challenge

My sister, Natasha Maw, said in her recent blog postings that she’s crazy. She is challenging herself to read a HUGE selection of books in 2008. Well it must run in the family because I’m going to join her in a couple of the challenges. One of them being the 2008 Title Challenge that originated at CafeMom. The challenge to read a book in 2008 that begins with each letter of the alphabet.

Below are my selections thus far. You’ll notice that I haven’t decided on some of the selections yet. You’ll also notice that there are quite a few classics on the list. That’s because I’ve made a decision to read or revisit some of the classics. But I’ll want some of selections to be quick reads and more recent books. So please feel free to make recommendations. I’m looking for suggestions on books published in the past five or so years for the letters: C, M, N, Q, W, X, Y, and Z.

  1. I’m so glad that you’ll be participating with me! Let me know if you would like to borrow some of the books that you (and I) have on our lists. I have: Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III, Jewel by Bret Lott, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper, One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez, The Scarlet Letter by Nathanial Hawthorne, and Vinegar Hill by A. Manette Ansay. This is challenge will make me feel better about reading books right on my own bookshelf!

  2. That’s Natasha. There are a few of the books there that I don’t have yet and would like to borrow.

Naturally you can borrow some of mine.

  3. Hello! I’m really glad that other people get as carried away as I do about reading! I also have begun to read the 100 greatest books of all time and I really like your list. I have read many but have many to go and also plan on reading some for the second time. I’m also crazy about your alphabet idea and am setting that goal for myself. I have a few ideas for you related to recent books I have read. One, you should put off the Scarlett Letter for a while and substitue The Secret Histroy by Donna Tartt, I just read it and it was wonderful. Also, depending on the age of your children, please don’t read them The Red Badge of Courage. Happy reading!
